How You Can Help Us
We are always in need of additional help:
- Make a Personal Food Donation
- Organise a Food Collection
- Become a Volunteer
- Promote our Work
- Make a Cash Donation
- Information for Schools
We welcome donations of the following types of food:
- Cans: Meat, fish, stews, soups, vegetables, beans, fruit, creamed rice, custard, puddings.
- Dried food: Pasta, rice, noodles, cereals, biscuits, snacks, tea, coffee, sugar.
- Long life cartons: Milk, juice, squash.
Important Note: All items must be 'in date' and ideally with at least a month to go before the Use By date. We cannot accept food that has passed the Use By date.
We can also accept bulk food donations from farms, companies, wholesalers and shops. Please contact Tracey Wilson (see foot of page) if you are able to help in this way and we can arrange collection. We are also now able to accept fresh vegetables and fruit in bulk.

You could ask people attending an event you are organising to bring along a tin or other item of food to be donated and provide a collection point at the event. If you plan to do this, please contact Tracey Wilson at the number at the foot of this page to let us know in advance so we can make arrangements to pick it up. You can see from our past News pages that a number of organisations did this in the last two years and it was very successful.
We rely entirely on volunteers to handle incoming food and prepare it for distribution to our partner organisations, hostels, soup kitchens etc. Volunteers also prepare food parcels and drive our delivery van. Food hygiene is provided to volunteers as needed. Van drivers need to have a full clean licence and experience in driving delivery vans.
We are always in need of additional volunteers so if you are able to help on a regular basis, even if only for a few hours per week, contact Tracey Wilson on the number at the foot of this page.
There are also opportunities for volunteers to be seconded to our partner organisations depending on interests and skills. Possibilities include face-to-face support of service users or the partner organisations themselves in e.g. budgeting/financial planning, form-filling, enhancing job skills and assisting access to services like the Citizen's Advice Bureau.
You can easily help to increase awareness of what we do by telling your friends about this website and our Facebook group.
If you belong to a church or similar organisation, you could contact Tracey Wilson on the number at the foot of this page to arrange a presentation or talk at one of your meetings. We may also be able to send a representative with an information stall to an event you are hosting.
Even though we keep our overheads to a minimum, we still have running costs to pay for fuel, electricity, accommodation, cleaning materials etc. From time to time we also raise funds for specific items to enable us to provide a better service; for example in 2015 we raised money towards a new delivery van as the old one was ready to expire.
You could also help us raise money by a fund-raising event. One of our volunteers raised money towards the van fund last year through being sponsored to give up alcohol for a month. If you have any ideas for events please contact Tracey Wilson on the number at the foot of this page.
Please click on the Donate page to see how you could make a one-off or regular donation if you are able to do so. Every penny donated goes directly to the project.
RESOURCESSchools Information Leaflet
A number of schools in the area have expressed a wish to help us and have organised food collections. You can see more about this on our News pages.
You can download our latest information leaflet for schools. It provides information about how schools can help people in food crisis, how to set up a collection point for food donations, and how to get further information.
